He covered his naked body with the furs and closed his eyes, praying for sleep to come. But he knew it would not. Not since that night.
The knock on his door ripped him out of his waking dream. He turned around to look at his brother entering his room, only to hear the words he's been hoping for and dreading at the same time. “We've found him, brother.“

Lakeview Manor was beautiful. There was no other way to describe it. The sun was just kissing the treetops when he finally arrived at his destination. Farkas knew Hagen would return to Jorrvaskr someday, but he could not wait for years. He needed clarity, and he needed it now. Vilkas, being the wonderful brother he was, had helped him track down his lost lover, and this is where the traces had led him. Farkas took a deep breath and approached the manor.
His knock on the door was answered by a skinny Nord with a knotted beard who gave the Companion a warm smile.
“How can I help you, friend?“
Farkas was sure to be at the wrong place, but there was no harm in asking. “Name's Farkas, I'm looking for the dragonborn.“
The other man's smile only grew. “You came to the right place. I am Roggi, master Hagen's steward. May I ask what business brings you here?“
Farkas swallowed. A steward? Not only did Hagen live in a damn castle, but he also had a steward? His confidence fell and he began to stutter. “Ehm... you see.... I'm with the Companions...“
Roggi Knot-Beard just laughed.
“Say no more, friend! Come in and have a seat while I fetch your shield-brother.“
The Companion just nodded and followed the other Nord into the hall.
What he saw there made him feel more out of place than ever. Not only was he led to a richly set table, no, but there was a bard standing beside it, singing the song of the dragonborn. A heavily armed redguard woman standing in the corner eyed him suspiciously, but before she could say anything, Roggi spoke to Farkas. “Nevermind Rayya. As housecarl it is her duty to be suspicious of anyone. As if anybody could actually harm the dragonborn!“ He laughed again and left a dumbfounded Farkas behind. Housecarl? Steward? What had he gotten himself into?
Shaking his head he took a seat and grabbed a bottle of mead to calm his nerves. What would he even say to Hagen? Could he even say anything with an audience around them? Maybe he should have thought of that before he came here.
For a moment he considered just getting up and running away, but he had a funny feeling that redguard woman would not be impressed.
It felt like a lifetime before the Steward came back, followed by noone else than the dragonborn himself. Hagen did not look pleased to see Farkas, but he already had suspected as much. The werewolf greeted the other man with a nod. “Shield-brother“.
Hagen, however, only glared in reply and looked at Farkas. After a few minutes he sighed and nodded at him. “Follow me.“
Farkas did as he was told and followed the dragonborn down a ladder into what seemed to be the basement. He was amazed to not only see a shrine to each of the nine divines, but also a forge complete with smelter down there. Powerful weapons, some of them daedric artefacts, decorated the walls. It seemed the dragonborn spent a lot of time in this place.
He sat down on a small table and offered the only other chair in the place to the other man.
His deep voice that never failed to send shivers down Farkas's spine echoed through the room.
