I do regret the game doesn't give you the option to spare Mercer (other than just not doing the quests of course). I think his speech about "We're thieves, dammit, we steal" before you fight him actually makes sense.

I haven't seen or read Dangerous Liasons, but I've only heard good things about it. I definitely need to give it a try!
