Andil ran his hand through sleep tousled hair and looked speculatively at the Thalmor justiciar sitting across from him. That both were altmer apparently wasn’t all they had in common. He had been rudely roused from his bed and told the justiciar had summoned him.
At first he was confused why would the mer want to see him? He had no dealings with the Thalmor. When he wondered aloud what was so important that it couldn’t wait until morning. The guard had answered sheepishly that he was to be escorted to Ondolemers personal quarters.
The private conversation which took place behind those closed doors had shocked him awake. And now he wondered what other secret life the justiciar of Marketh was involved in.
Andil considered himself an even tempered mer. And to be fair he usually was. Until it came to the shenanigans of his house Carl Lydia. She seemed to spend all of her time dreaming up new ways annoy him. Like the time she “accidentally” fed him stamina potions claiming they would help him rest. Or the way she kept calling him, “ mage” under her breath; when she knew he could overhear her.
He usually just ignored her having been around enough nords to know most of them disliked mages. Once he’d even asked her if she wanted to quit? She had proceeded to lecture him about oaths and the nord concept of honor.
She was good at her job so he kept her around. That he found her immensely attractive was something he didn’t even admit to himself. Still her attitude had only affected him until now.
Ondolemar had regally informed him that his housecarl had been arrested for Talos worship. However, the Thalmor would release her, if Andil would do him a service and meet his conditions. The justiciar confessed he was sweet on a nord girl from Whiterun.
They had been involved in an affair, but hadn’t parted on the best of terms. Now he wanted someone to make sure she was ok and discreetly deliver a message. In return Lydia’s arrest would be hushed up.
Andil had never considered he would have anything in common with a justiciar. But it seems they were both attracted to nord women. He could appreciate the other mer’s predicament and was willing to help out if the “terms” were acceptable. “You mentioned conditions?”, he asked.
Ondolemar looked worried “I am charged with overseeing the ban on Talos worship. I take my duties seriously. I need your word to punish your servant. It has to be a real punishment, not just a slap on the wrist”.
Andil started to speak, but the justiciar held up his hand interrupting him, “If it had been anyone other than me, your woman would already be in a dungeon! I’ll have your word on this, or I’ll be forced to bring her in as a heretic”.
Andil gave him that look often passed between mers when their female had annoyed them “You have my word! She will be punished”. There was no reason to tell the justiciar why he would punish her. It certainly was not for worshiping Talos.
Ondolemar raised his glass “to strong nord women”. Andil could drink to that, even with a Thalmor.
