When Vilkas got back to Whiterun he decided to come into the city through the Underforge. His wolf had carried him most of the way home.
When he climbed in he found that his armour had been laid out for him. He stripped the dead man’s armour off him and decided he would sell it at Belethor’s, along with everything else that the Wolf had gathered for him.
As he dressed himself his eyes turned to the troll’s head and he sighed.
He shouldn’t have ever gotten his hopes up. Ariella hadn’t been missing for a few days, she’s been missing for months. Even if the troll hadn’t killed her, she would have starved if her injuries didn’t kill her first.
He had asked around in Ivarstead if they had ten an injured breton, or just a breton but they all said they saw her go up the Mountain but she never came down again. Vilkas even detoured to some of the other towns around, he went all the way to Windhelm asking about her but no one had seen her. No one.
Once he was fully strapped in he shook himself of his emotions and picked up the sack. He had wrapped her sword and the few things he found in a pelt. He pulled the package out, not daring to unwrap it and look at the truth once again.
He left the Underforge and saw that a few of the Companions were in the courtyard. Only Farkas noticed him, or at least the others pretended not to.
Farkas got up from his seat rather quickly and made his way over to his brother. Vilkas pressed his lips together and when Farkas was close enough pressed the wrapped package into Farkas’ chest.
Farkas looked for an explanation but Vilkas wouldn’t say the words. He turned towards the steps leaving Farkas to unwrap the grisly parcel.
