Meme Announcements!
ANNOUNCEMENTS: UPDATED 12/16/2017
Happy Holidays, fellow Kinkmemers! I have returned and have no reasonable excuse for my absence except LIFE. I will be working on updating the archives. If anyone sees anything amiss, please let me know.
I am also hoping to find another Mod and an Archivist.
The more dedicated people we have in this Meme the less chance of it dying. I admit that being the sole keeper of the Meme is not great for the fandom. If something were to happen to me, for good, this place would go the way of the Fallout Kink Meme. Let's not let that happen! If anyone would be interested in Modding/Archiving, please drop me a line. Thanks! <3
Dawning - Part 21/?
(Anonymous) 2014-11-04 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)From what they could see, and what Vilkas could barely hear, Ulfric was giving a speech about the cause. The city was weeping over the fallen, citizens and soldiers gathered and paid respects. The bodies were no where to be found and in traditional Nord fashion flowers and tributes were placed beneath a banner representing the cause the men fought for. After Ulfric’s speech was over he placed flowers beneath the banner. High ranking officials began doing the same, then the soldiers and then the civilians.
“I don’t get it.” Vilkas grumbled, just loud enough for Athis to hear. “The dead won’t even be able to witness this. They’re not even being acknowledged by name.”
Athis let out a small laugh. “You must be truly naive to think that funerals are for the dead.”
“Funerals honour the dead.” Vilkas said, feeling as though he was explaining something that should have been a basic concept. “They cleanse the body and soul and help them move onto the next world.”
Athis shook his head.
Vilkas continued to explain, “Without giving each man a proper, individual funeral they won’t be able to pass over into their afterlife.”
“Funerals aren’t for the dead.” Athis said, the elf seemed wise and Vilkas was reminded of just how old he actually was. “They’re for the living. They give us a chance to say goodbye. We can call it helping them if we like because it makes us believe their soul is still here, still listening when we give our final goodbyes.”
Vilkas watched as crying mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, children all walked up to the banner. They would lay their flowers through teary eyes and walk away with, he wouldn’t call it a smile, but there was some kind of sadness gone from them.
“Some of us miss the opportunity to say goodbye in the flesh. It’s comforting to know we might get a chance for them to hear it anyway.”
Once everyone settled back down and the flower laying stopped Ulfric helped an old man up some steps to a podium so the masses might better see him.
The entire city began recounting a prayer and at the end the priest raised his hands “Their souls have departed!” He announced and with it the city dispersed.
Vilkas and Athis wondered back to the inn where their room was already set out for them.
The mood of the inn was sombre and only sad songs of war were played. Athis wasn’t in the mood for chatting and the silence with the atmosphere made Vilkas think. He didn’t like thinking these days. His wolf growled at him sharply when his thoughts began turning to the last funeral he attended.
