So anyway, I was doing a few timeline calculations for my own fic purposes, and it occurred to me that Cicero's probably in his late thirties at the youngest in game, probably early forties, which means he was just a kid when the Great War and the sack of the Imperial City was all happening. A kid growing up in the midst of all this in Cyrodiil, which probably explains a lot about him right there. And then I thought 'what if his family fled the fighting? What if they legged it out of Cyrodiil to somewhere safer? Like, say, Skyrim? What if Cicero grew up there instead of Cyrodiil and never ended up in the Cyrodiil Brotherhood? Never encountered the Night Mother? Or the jester contract? Was never Keeper? Grows up, has a completely different life, then thirty years later meets the Dragonborn under rather different circumstances? What then?

Basically I'd like to see one of the following scenarios:

- Cicero grew up in or near Whiterun, joins the Companions, does extremely well but is known for being a little too enthusiastic in pursuit of his duties. He's frequently being told off by Skjor, and there's a bit of rivalry with Vilkas, but Aela's fond of him, Farkas think he's alright and Cicero looks up to Kodlak like a father.
- Cicero grew up in the Rift, ends up in the Guild, but is not quite as successful as he could be due to an unfortunate tendency to 'accidentally' kill his marks on occasion. Somehow he's managed to charm his way into having this overlooked far more than most would get away with.
- Cicero grew up anywhere in Skyrim that's not covered in snow all year, ends up in Astrid's Sanctuary, where he's a much loved and well-respected member (by most of them anyway) and unfailingly loyal to Astrid (maybe has a bit of a crush on her).

In all cases, Cicero's still got his bad-ass fighting skills and a penchant for violence and finding (causing) trouble.

Whatever you go for, he then meets the Dragonborn when they join his faction, sparks fly, Cicero's really not shy about going for what he wants, the Dragonborn's a bit resistant at first but after a few adventures with their new sidekick/admirer, is won over. Sexy tiems ensue. Don't care about DB's gender, but would prefer either Elves, Imperials, or maybe Bretons. At least one occasion where one of them saves the other's life in a truly impressive way and/or rips someone apart for daring to lay a finger on the other would be very nice indeed.

Hmm...Cicero's madness and devotion to the Night mother were kinda what defined him. Without those, he'd be a little OC-ish. Not that I mind, I just think all the two characters would have in common would be a name and being mildly psychopathic.

Have you read his journals, anon? If I recall correctly he's still pretty sane up until the very end of the third journal. There's a pretty solid canon foundation to base sane!Cicero on. Not-obsessed-with-the-Night-Mother!Cicero has a bit less to go on, but he still doesn't even mention her in the first journal.

I didn't like sane Cicero. He seemed...too normal. Nothing like that lovely madman I came to know and love (sorta).

I by no means am trying to dissuade anyone from doing this, it sounds like an awesome prompt, but any A!anon who writes it will walk a thin line between Cicero and OC. Hell, if no one else picks it up, I may write it.

On a related note, what is your thought on Guard!Cicero?

That would be fun.

...Especially if he's one of the "Psst! I know who you are--hail Sithis!" guards.

I was thinking Dirty Harry Cicero.
