I just think it's soooo charming when he says "Still learning the ropes, but I'll get the hang of it." Not only is he a newbie to the thieves guild but he's a bit of a newbie thief!

Personally I only got Garthar entering the guild after completely finishing the main thieves guild questline. SO would love a story about an a very adept/impressive thief DB showing Garthar the ropes and helping him out at times. Lovin ensues eventually (optional).

Big bonus points if Garthar is a bit star struck when he first sees DB but doesn't talk to her right away, and constantly bothers vex for stories/info about DB.

(I imagined this as an AU where the PC is just a prominent member of the thieves guild, that got it back on it's feet, rather than DB+whatever but that's just an idea)
