Summerset Surprise 9/9
(Anonymous) 2012-11-17 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)"Well, I wasn't expecting this when I brought him back for you, but nevermind. Enjoy your meal." With that he walked off. Niruin called after him.
"If you ever need marksmanship training, let me know!" Then he turned his attention back to the pot.
Cynric chose that moment to leave, and Vipir left with him, shaking his head, muttering vaguely to himself.
Rune cleared his throat.
"Umm, Niruin, I know it's none of my business, but...how long are you planning on keeping him like that?" He inclined his head at the dismembered, barely conscious but still suffering Altmer on the floor.
"Oh, he'll bleed out soon enough." A dark look flitted across Niruin's face. "A shame it has to be so quick really, but I did my best."
"Right. Alright then. Good. Um. Yes." With that, Rune left, and the only one still stood there was Sapphire. She was grinning.
Niruin looked her right in the eye. He suspected she knew, somehow, what the others did not, and looked for signs to confirm or deny this. His thoughts must have shown in his expression, because she grew serious suddenly. Crossing her arms, she looked down at the Altmer, and sighed thoughtfully. When she looked back at Niruin, he thought she was going to say something, but she didn't. Instead, she walked further into the room, and looked around furtively. Then she spoke.
"Look-" She paused, seemed to be thinking, and looked away. "I had..let's say, a bad time, with some Bandits once. I killed them. But this-" She gestured at the pot and the Altmer, looked Niruin in the eyes, and smiled again. "This is just great."
Niruin gave a small smile back, then looked back at the pot. "Well, this one's done." He reached for a bowl, and spooned the stew into it, before handing it towards Sapphire. "Would you like some?" Linwe gave another pitiful sound from the floor. Niruin turned and snapped "Oh shut up!" Then he looked back at Sapphire. "My cooking is quite good you know."
Sapphire seemed reluctant, but curious. She pursed her lips for a moment before speaking. "Frankly, I don't think cannibalism's my thing. Thanks, though. I'm sure your cooking's fine, it's just- well, I just-"
Niruin held up a hand. "No, that's fine, I don't take it personally. I know...other people...can be a bit..find it a bit off putting. No offense taken." He reached for a fork and started tucking into the stew.
She looked relieved. "Good. Well then-" she turned to leave, her eyes straying over Linwe, then turning back to Niruin. "Did you say you only had three days to eat him?"
"Well, three days after he dies. Technically. I'm getting a head start."
"Right. Well, let me know how it goes." With a nod, she turned to leave. Niruin took his bowl and sat on a chest near where Linwe was bleeding to death from his wounds and drifting in and out of shock. He was surprised at how content he felt. Everything really had gone better than he could have expected. As far as he could tell, no-one suspected what had been done to him by the Altmer dying on the floor; well, except for Sapphire, and he believed that would be alright as well. As he ate the soup, the smell and taste took him back to his childhood, of meals prepared after battles by his parents, and great family gatherings to finish off the dead in the required time. Soothed by home comforts, he looked down at Linwe again. So, he hadn't strictly stuck to the requirements- people were supposed to be dead when you started eating them, so he was cheating a bit. Also, he was supposed to eat all of his fallen enemy, so castrating Linwe and then feeding his own member to him was probably cheating too. But then, he thought, it was the thought that counted, he wasn't under a religious requirement here, and he had got what he wanted.
He felt like himself again.
As a death rattle formed in Linwe's throat, and the Altmer began to breath his last, Niruin started to laugh.
