Today is the 18th day of the 2016th year by the count of the Julian (or was it Gregorian?) calendar, since setting up watch. I hereby commit my thoughts to paper in the hopes that if I am unable to see this through to the end, that you too, may know that another was once so faithful to this fill as you are now. Perhaps this may be of some comfort to know that once, another had pledged theirself to seeing this fill through to it's completion, however glorious or bitter it may be. For now, spirits are high, despite the uncertain future of this tale, but as it is with most things, we can only wait and hope.
I pray that whomsoever finds this, that you too, are filled with hope. If hope fails you, fear not, thou faltering soul, for I have left rations. Thus far I have consumed several containers of crackers and cheese, as well a fair amount of wine (I promise you, if I am gone, it was not the wine that ended me). If you prefer, there are packages for smores and sweetmeats besides, but I cannot promise that the apple juice has not turned to apple-honey mead in my absence. One must have hobbies in the interim, and the practice of mead-making is a long honored tradition. I apologize now for having used the instructions for kindling some time ago, for the weather had gotten cold.
