But when it came to the morning, Amielle would admit to being an absolute coward.
She woke early as usual and Farkas didn't as usual. Most of the Companions woke later though; preferring a late night and a late start. Amielle however had been trained to be up around dawn and it seemed she couldn't shake it.
She slipped out of bed and dressed quietly, but she didn't really know why: Farkas could probably sleep through a dragon attack. She laced up her boots and couldn't help smiling as he snored lightly in her bed. She considered waking to tell him she was leaving to take Barbas home (curse that dog!) but she didn't have the guts.
After all, what would she say? Should she thank him? Too pitiful, surely. Make some slick comment about doing this again? Not exactly her style, nor something she felt she could pull off.
So she decided to just leave him asleep and appeased her need for him by kissing his head as she left, stealing one last glance before shutting the door behind her.
'Gods, please don't let this be a one time thing. I mean, I'm grateful for some action but please let him like me as much as I like him.'
She wandered through the quiet of the living quarters and up the stairs to the hall. Aela sat at one of the tables, Barbas at her feet. Aela was the one Companions who sometimes woke as early as Amielle, as she loved to hunt around dawn.
Amielle greeted her with a nod and a smile, taking an apple from the table and biting into it, feeling ravenous. 'Sex makes you hungry,' she remembered. 'Hungry with sore thighs.' She grinned to herself.
"I think he missed you last night." Aela said as Barbas came bounding over to her.
"Did he." She replied dryly, kneeling down to stroke him. She was determined that even Barbas, the furry jerk that he was, wouldn't spoil her good mood.
"Yes. He was scratching at my door - wouldn't let up until I gave in. I was halfway through having a bath at the time. He was very persistent."
Amielle scratched Barbas' ears a little too hard. "I bet he was."
"But he's a good dog." Aela said fondly. "Slept at the bottom of my bed all night."
"Hmm." Amielle glared at him. "Come on then. Goodbye, Aela."
"Farewell. When will you be returning?"
She thought of Farkas snoring in her bed and smiled. "Soon, I hope."
She opened the door to Whiterun and stepped outside, breathing in the crisp morning air. Barbas padded down the steps beside her.
"You fucked that Nord, didn't you?"
She spluttered and nearly kicked him. "N-no!"
"Oh, please! I can smell him all over you!" They passed the tree and headed for the market, Amielle determined to ignore him. "Lucky bastard."
And try as she might, Amielle couldn't stop herself laughing.
