Re: The Fair and the Dragon 1/?
Date: 2012-08-12 12:14 pm (UTC)She felt her face go red as the Jarl traced over the ghost of a scar so she turned away. Elisif’s hands worked meticulously as if afraid of breaking the Dragonborn. Maren felt a deep burning within her core that made her gasp when Elisif’s fingers touched her again. Elisif pulled away much to Maren’s dismay.
“Did I hurt you?” She asked, sounding panicked.
“It’s fine, where did you learn to dress wounds?” Elisif began the cleaning process again slowly.
“My mother taught me before my wedding, if you’re to marry a warrior you must be able to treat their wounds and aid them somewhat, no wife should with without use.” She put down the rag and then dabbed it dry before beginning to bind it again. Maren shifted her weight uncomfortable at the mention of husbands.
“You should go to the healers before you get an infection.” Elisif said once the bandage was tied off.
“Aye, thank you Jarl Elisif.”
“Just Elisif will suffice.” The young Jarl said with a kind smile. Maren bit her lip slightly and smiled in return before walking out of the room, heaving a sigh of relief once she was out of the palace.
---
Maren showed up the next day and just about every day after that. She was a Thane in the respect that she had a place in the court but was also more like a companion or housecarl in the way she readily accepted physical jobs. Elisif had noticed the Erikur was putting himself forward a lot more, trying to accept jobs that he had no experience in. He had never really expressed an interest in battle or spelunking but recently he put his name forward first for everything. As if there was something he needed to prove.
It was probably just a phase. He would have felt threatened by Maren as a new Thane and after that fact settled in he would go back to normal. Maren was proving to be a most valuable asset to the court. Some weeks she went away to deal with other things but seemed to spend most of her time in Solitude and Haafingar.
“Jarl Elisif, may I speak to you privately?” Erikur asked. She sighed and waved her hand for the others to be sent away. “It’s about Thane Maren.”
“Thane Maren, has she not gone to the bandit camp?”
“She has, it’s about her ettiquet and complete disreguard for all social protocols that have been in place for eons.” Elisif took and breath and waited patiently for him to continue, “I understand that dragons should be taken care of by her alone, but things like bandit camps, forsworn raids and dungeon delving should be taken care of by, and I don’t mean to sound sexist, but capable males.”
“You do not believe she is capable?” Elisif asked, “Has she died or come back fatally wounded? She does these things and keeps the guards in the city, where they belong.”
“Yes, I understand but how many times has she come back injured and how long until those injuries get worse? I implore you next job we get let me go, I’ll take a few of the guards and we’ll show you if we do it the correct way no one will be injured.”
Elisif rubbed her eyes in frustration, “Fine, Erikur next time you go.”
“Thank you Jarl, you won’t regret this.” Erikur seemed overly pleased with himself and Elisif just prayed that she wasn’t going to regret this. People began to slowly merge back into the room and Falk gave the tired looking Jarl and quizzical look. She shook her head telling him not to worry and he went and sat down.

I know I've changed the character of Erikur a little bit, also please keep in mind my Erikur wants to become High King himself so wants to marry Elisif.... (I'm telling you because I've done a shit job at implying it...)
