Show No Weakness - Part 20/?

Argis knocked back another tankard of mead and his old friend, Hrol poured him another. The two were both Housecarls so they were being constantly being bombarded with questions from their friends who had yet to become them.

The six old friends were all sitting on two of the beds in the barracks. Mead was flowing, laughter was filling the halls and stories were being told. The atmosphere was comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable.

Yet despite the smile plastered on Argis’ face his mind was a worry. He felt bad for leaving Vlindrel hall and in the beginning his mind was wondering to the possibility of thieves coming. Yet now, four meads in, he was thinking about how Amund would react when he found his mead and housecarl missing.

Argis imagined at first he would be angry but now, given everything that had happened if Amund did notice he wouldn’t say anything. That thought just make Argis more riddled with guilt. He had some money saved up and could replace the mead but it couldn’t replace the fact he had neglected his duty.

Argis knocked back another tankard, which was soon refilled.

“What about your Thane, Argis?” Else, a woman still in the guard said.

“My thane?” He’s the most attractive man you’ll ever lay eyes on “Well he’s the Dragonborn.” Who I’m not good enough for…

“The Dragonborn, truly?”

“Aye, so we’re constantly helping all over the hold.” Well he is anyway… “He’s a good man.” Even though he treats me like a doormat. “Troubled, but good.” I suppose the truth is…

“Does he treat you like Hrol’s thane, uh-”

“Jiv.”

“Yeah, like Jiv treats Hrol?” I hope not.

“No, not ever.” Argis said with a laugh. Not like that, because the truth is…

“Ah, you’re lucky my friend.” Hrol said slapping Argis on the back. Argis finished his mead and smiled at his friend.

I love him.

The conversation moved on and that allowed Argis to contemplate what he had just thought. He didn’t know what part of him was talking, but be it the mead or loneliness or a mixture of both, he knew it was true at the current time.

The more he thought the more it made sense. The only times he’d ever felt whole were when they were together and the two times they’d had sex Argis had felt so… complete. He didn’t want respect, not respect for his skills but the respect you give someone when you love them as deeply as Argis loved Amund.

Argis sighed wishing he had only reached this resolve much earlier. He wished he had gone to see his friends much sooner feeling that this atmosphere had influenced him somehow…

He wished even more desperately than before that he could talk to his Thane, but knew he would just be shut out if he attempted. If the Dragonborn didn’t want to talk the Dragonborn didn’t talk. But more than anything Argis feared rejection.

He had felt the sting of being rejected by Amund before and it wasn’t something he wished to feel again.

Yet as he thought back to the nights they shared together three words rang in Argis’ mind ‘I love you.’ The memory of the admission shocked Argis slightly. The words never meant anything, until now.

Argis contemplated his lack of resolve in his feelings as being a component to the tension between them. Now that his feelings were mysteries no more he would go confront his Thane, whether Amund liked it or not.

Argis knocked back his mead and said goodbye to his friends walking out the door with only a slight sway in his walk.

Outside the clouds had cleared and the silver moon shone magnificently over the city leaving everything with a silver glow as Argis began the winding walk home.

I thought you all deserved two parts today because you have been patient with me stretching out the angst.
Oh and in case you haven't gotten it by now, Argis is incredibly shy about personal/sexual stuffs... js

FINALLY! FINALLY Argis gets some self-awareness! (Finally) Let's hope it's not too late. I'm pleased that he (finally) noticed that Amund was telling him that he loved him. I'm hoping the two parties manage to meet up with each other in the moonlight. But I'm not holding my breath. Thanks for the extra fix!
