Minifill: Hope

Torygg, son of Istlod, Jarl of Solitude, future High King of Skyrim licked his lips nervously. He was unused to feeling nervous, for many of his father's Thanes and their wives and mistresses had been Court beauties, but there was something different about Elisif the Fair.

He tried to smile, but suspected it came across as either a grimace or worryingly manic. He cleared his throat, cleared it again, and rose from the throne, and crossed the room to greet the woman his mother had selected to be his queen.

"Elisif the Fair. I am Torygg," he said, defying his etiquette teacher who had told him to always use his title to impress, even if his physique was that of a scholar in this land of warriors. Torygg had never cared for the man, with his backhanded insults so silkily offered.

Elisif smiled tremulously and curtsied, wobbling slightly.

Torygg held out his hand, she took it, and he led her away from the public throne room and into the private apartments of the Blue Palace, where they would be observed, his life was always to be under someone's eyes, but not eavesdropped upon - he had made Sybille magically ensure the privacy of his words and thoughts at all times in his chambers.

"Welcome to Solitude," he said softly.

"Thank you, my Jarl," she murmured, looking up at him through her fringe. He still had possession of her hand, and found himself reluctant to let go; her flesh was soft, delicate and warm.

"I know this must be... difficult for you," Torygg began, hesitating when he saw dismay etched on her features. Hurriedly he dropped her hand and continued to speak. "I will understand if you find you wish to refuse my suit."

"Do you wish me to refuse?" Elisif asked, sounding a little confused.

"I have found, since taking my father's place as Jarl, and being prepared for the role of High King in charge of the lives of so many of Skyrim's peoples' lives, that I have very little say in what happens in my own life, Elisif. But you have the right to refuse me if you find me... if you wish to refuse me," Torygg said honestly.

"Do I have the right not to refuse? Or are you asking me to refuse you in order to free you from some obligation?" Elisif asked.

"To wed you would be no obligation, but a joy, Fair Elisif," Torygg replied, smiling. "I cannot say I love you, for this is our first hour of meeting, but I think I could love you, in time."

"And I had no hope of a love match until this day and I met you," Elisif replied. "Nobody has ever held my hand before."

"Nor I theirs."

And the most natural progression from there was their first kiss. and soon after that, their second. And not quite so soon, their wedding day.
