Meridia + Sanguine + Azura: "Something Amiss" 2/2

(Anonymous) 2013-08-10 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
“I...am sorry that your temple has been defiled,” Azura began cautiously. “Necromancers have never respected you the way they should.”

“I agree entirely,” Meridia replied irritably. “Just knowing that he's in there, practicing his disgusting arts with Dawnbreaker in the same room...can't you two sense him as well?” Sanguine, for his part, couldn't, but a warning look from Azura told him to nod politely.

“We also get that you need another mortal to...y'know, get him out of there,” he continued. “But here's the thing about mortals, Meridia. They're...well, they're mortal. They have bones and organs and a lot of parts that can break and squish.” When Meridia leveled him with a deadpan look, he cleared his throat and gestured down at the broken man beneath them. “They also tend to die when you drop them out of the sky onto rocks. So you probably shouldn't do that.” Now the woman's eyes widened in understanding, and she squinted down at the corpse.

“Mortals are ridiculous,” she complained now. “So frail. If I were to drop Vaermina from this height, she likely wouldn't even feel it!”

“You probably shouldn't try it, though,” Sanguine replied, shaking his head. “Do you get it now, at least? It's not that you're being ignored...” Meridia laughed lightly now, tossing her head back.

“Of course not. No mortal can ignore the will of Meridia. It's just that my blade is still trapped! All of my would-be champions are simply not surviving the journey down!” Sanguine rolled his eyes, and Azura smiled nervously.

“That's correct. If you need Dawnbreaker back, you can certainly convince a mortal to take on the task for you, but...please, for all of our sakes, make sure you keep control of him until he makes it to the ground. We can't have more mortals dying, or the survivors getting too curious about why bodies are falling from the sky.”

“Yeah, and none of us want to deal with your bad mood if you mess up again,” Sanguine chimed in. Meridia glared at him now, shaking her head firmly.

“I do not 'mess up,' Sanguine. I didn't understand, that's all. I won't make the mistake again, I assure you both,” she announced. Azura heaved a sigh of relief.

“Thank you. And, while we're on the topic, please don't start lifting mammoths into the sky simply out of curiosity. We all know you're capable.” This time, Meridia looked over her shoulder with a tinge of amusement.

“I'm afraid I can't promise you that, Azura. Oh!” She looked back down again, brightening at the sight of a twenty-fourth would-be champion. “You can watch me this time, to make sure I do it right.” She morphed back into her ray of light, and her voice boomed from all around them. “Look at my temple, lying in ruins! So much for the constancy of mortals, their crafts and their hearts...”

“While we're on the topic, should we go let Namira know how her ring is working out for the mortals?” Sanguine murmured as he watched. Azura grimaced, shaking her head firmly.

“I've had enough of you all to last another century or two."
