“The Spring Wind That Blew Through Dragonsreach” F!OC/Farengar Secret-Fire, 5d/?
(Anonymous) 2013-10-06 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)Not expecting retaliation, the wyrm let out a screech and reared into the air. The ball of flame crashed against its scales, causing them to glow like embers. The dragon’s eyes blazed with fury. It opened its jaws and extended its neck. A word sounding strangely like Yol erupted from its maw.
“Hurry,” Olria shouted. She grabbed Farengar’s arm and slipped in the opening of the crooked door. Her grip tugged Farengar along. Moments later, fire funnelled into the opening after them, lighting the dark corridor they’d entered.
Olria jumped forward and stamped out the flaming hem of Farengar’s robes. They both backed away from the doorway and the dizzying heat. The flames ceased. All grew quiet. The only sound was the low whistle of wind through the doors. The dragon fire had melted the ice on the stony ceiling above them. A steady drip drip of water echoed in the corridor.
“Where are we?” Olria asked.
Farengar summoned Candlelight. They looked around themselves. The tunnel they were in had been refined by human hands. It led downward, the trail disappearing into darkness.
“Ancient Nordic ruins,” Farengar answered.
Olria swallowed.
Outside, they heard a low growl and snuffling. Olria and Farengar exchanged glances.
Something big hit the stone doors. Cold metal hinges squealed and snapped. The crooked door sagged further and further, until they could see a great big dragon eye staring at them through the gap.
Farengar grabbed Olria’s hand. Together, they dashed away down the narrow tunnel and into the shadows.

Farengar was unbelievably grateful for his spell light. He knew all the stories about Nordic ruins – they both did. The two mages wandered deeper into the crypt, worried that a breath of dragon fire could funnel right down the stone passage without warning.
“I don’t like this,” Olria muttered. “There are all sorts of traps in these ruins.”
“It’s not the traps I’m worried about,” Farengar answered coolly.
