“Haha...hahaha!” the boy started to laugh. What the...

“ It worked!” he exclaimed in joy, getting up as he did. “It worked!”

He grabbed her robes, looking into the bottom of her eyes.

“I knew you’d come, I just knew it! I did the Black Sacrament, over and over. With the body and the...” his voice and head lowered. “The things. And then you came!” he spoke again gleefully. “An assassin from the Dark Brotherhood!”

Mallari’s gaze looked at the distant point in the air, memories coming up to her mind.

“Yes of course... The Black Sacrament...”

“It took so long. So very long.” Regretted the child. She kneeled. “But now that you’re here, you can accept my contract.”

“A... Contract?” she asked, unsure.

“My mother” started the boy. Mallari froze again. “She... she died. I... I’m all alone now.” He sobbed quietly. “So they sent me to that terrible orphanage in Riften. Honorall.” He explained his voice low and dark. “The headmistress is an evil, cruel woman. They call her Grelod the Kind. But she’s not kind. She’s terrible. To all of us.” Feeling the child shivering, the elven woman put her hands on his shoulders.”So I ran away, and came home. And performed the Black Sacrament.” He raised his head, his eyes locking on hers. “Now you’re here! And you can kill Grelod the Kind!”

The vampire woman lowered her head.

“What happened to your mother?”

“She got sick, last winter, when the snow came. And she just.. she never got better. Not all year. One night she fell asleep and... never woke up.” He told, a sad smile on his round face. “So now, I’m all alone. And the Jarl said I had to go to Honorall Orphanage. It’s not fair!” the boy complained.

She nodded absently, thinking about the rotting head of Ulfric Stormcloack on Solitude’s gates. Seemed like this bastard liked to hurt children too.

She swept out the Nord’s goddamn head out of her mind. But another Nord came in, troubling her. Harkon...

“A-are you sure you want Grelod to be dead?” she asked.

“I’ve never been more sure about anything in my entire life. Someone like Grelod doesn’t deserve to live one more day. She’s a monster.” Answered coldly Aventus.

“I see...”

She got up and left the house. Declining, the sun wasn’t burning her anymore. Once she got out of the city, she took the carriage to Riften.

Mallari opened the door of the Aretino Residence. Little steps came to her ears.

“Aventus?” she called out, climbing the stairs.

A child’s laugh answered her.

“You came to visit!” the boy cried out in joy, throwing himself in the vampire’s arms. She smiled at cool warmth that was emanating of his body. She kissed the boy’s forehead.

“How are you, boy? Look, I brought you sweets.” She said, taking lollipops and toffees out of one of her pockets. The boy grabbed them greedily, and hugged her. He was so sweet.

“Are you planning to stay here in the dark all alone your whole during, child?” she asked slowly.

“When I grow up, I’m going to be an assassin. That way I can help lots of children, just like you!” he answered in her robes.

“But it will be long...” she whispered, petting his hair with her soft hands. “Don’t you feel lonely, here, in this big house?”

He didn’t answer. Mallari tried again.

“Don’t you want to come with me, Aventus? To the Brotherhood?”

The child’s eyes widened in surprise.

“I could teach you how to murder someone.” She offered, her voice unctuous. “You would have new brothers and sisters... New parents...” she continued, still petting the little nord’s hair. “Why don’t you come with me?”

Aventus remained silent for a moment.

“I’ll have...a new father... and a new mother?” he asked, looking in the dark.

“Yes...” she whispered in his ear. “And I’ll be your new... sister.”

Aventus grabbed her robes harder.

“When...” he started, a bit unsure. “When are we leaving?”

Mallari smiled, her teeth shining at the light of candles.
“Pack you things up, brother.”

As twilight fell on Skyrim, a guard noticed the dark shape of a woman riding a nightmare-made steed with a child in her arms leaving Windhelm.

“Mallari...” Astrid grinned her teeth. “What’s the meaning of this?” The Nord woman pointed at the sleeping body of a child the mer was carrying. She was upset.Which made the elf happy.

“It’s a gift, Astrid.” Answered the honeyed voice of the vampire.
“A gift? This child?” the Nord said, sceptical. “And what do you want me to do with this brat?” she spat.

“Who said this gift was meant to you?” mocked Mallari. “Now, if you’ll excuse me.” She said, overtaking her.

Astrid looked at her in fury but didn’t say anything. The Ayleid grinned and entered the heart of the sanctuary, looking for Babette.

The little vampire was sitting in a chair all alone, watching absently at Lis. She seemed melancholic.

“Babette” she called her out, making the little girl jump with surprise. She got up quickly and bowed her head in submission.
“Y-Yes sister?” she asked nervously. She couldn’t help but being afraid at the sight of this Mallari. She could feel the power that was dwelling under her skin, dark and dangerous. The Breton girl feared the vampire lord, feeling extremely weak and vulnerable next to this tall, appealing woman. Because of her pure blood, she wasn’t disfigured as lesser vampires were: her vampiric state wasn’t a disease but a divine gift. It was natural for Babette to submit to her. Any lesser vampire would because it was written in their blood. Her own body was begging her to serve the Ayleid woman, and she was struggling against it.

“I’ve got a gift for you.” She said, showing the sleeping body of Aventus Aretino to her. Babette’s eyes widened.

“A-a gift?” she said, uneasy. “This boy?”

“Yes.” Answered the elven woman with a smile. “I thought you needed a... companion.”

Aventus grumbled in his sleep.

“His name is Aventus Aretino. He is ten years old and orphan. I killed someone for him.” She explained softly, petting the boy’s hair as she did. “He wants to be one of us.”

Babette froze.

“He wants to... This boy wants to be... What do you mean?” she asked, uncertain.

“He wants to murder people like I did for him.” She answered, smiling faintly as her lips ghosted over his forehead. Babette stepped back. She felt like a stray dog next to a wolf guarding a sheep.

“I give this boy to you, Babette.”Continued the woman. “This is my gift for you.” She hold out her hand to the girl. “Come.” She said with a smile. “Don’t be afraid.” She added.

Babette obeyed, still worried.

Mallari uncovered Aventus’s neck, offering his throat to the undead Breton girl.

“He is yours.”

Babette stretched her hand to the boy’s pale skin visualising his veins and arteries. His flesh was deliciously warm. The girl’s hand was ghosting over his sleeping face. Her round face finally gave out a faint smile.

“Thank you, sister.” She whispered, her red eyes gleaming. “Your gift...is highly appreciated.”

Mallari left room, grinning as she did.

The next day, when she saw Aventus, two little holes were marking the boy’s neck.

Now, Mallari had two brothers and sisters who loved her.

A!A comments

I hate Astrid, she’s such a cow. Was so happy to stab her miserable body in the end and be able to clean up the mess she made. Anyway, I’m a huge fan of Claudia from Interview with a Vampire and have always seen Babette as a kind of Claudia. I’m happy with the fact that she found a companion who’ll understand her state but ugh... writing the scene where she is touching her “gift” was quite disturbing and really...gloomy! I can see now why turning a child into vampire is so taboo...

/Useless notes you may encounter later in the story of have already encounter

Mallari didn’t drink Aventus’ blood because she sees his story as an echo to her own.
Mallari performed the Black Sacrament on Harkon.
