"Missed me," her attacker mocked. The words sounded flat in the still air. Belatedly, Nalasa recognized the change in air quality as some sort of wide-range muffling spell. Good; she could fight better without innocent farmers wandering in to see what the commotion was about. If only she could reach Mehrunes' Razor. The blade was beneath her pillow, as always, but - she cursed her sleep-muddled panic - now more than an arm's length away.

Nalasa cast a light spell just in time to see a leather-clad figure launch himself at her. She rolled again and came free of the furs. She scrambled to her feet, tripped on fur, and landed on her ass. He was on her in a moment, shoving her to the ground.

His face was inches from hers. It was Ravyn, but had lost the aloof expression that had so infuriated her in the past. His eyes were burning with hatred, his mouth twisted into an ugly sneer.

"Bastard," she snarled, going for a headbutt. "I should have let those ghosts slice you up." There wasn't enough room, and the blow landed harmlessly.

He grunted at the impact and pressed his knee to her gut. "Stop your mewling and die, Dark Brotherhood filth!"

She went for his eyes. Ravyn snatched her hand and pinned it above her head. He raised the knife and she grabbed his wrist with her free hand, twisting. She heard the knife clatter by her left ear and reached back, but he put his hand on her elbow and leaned. Pain shot through her arm. She struggled fruitlessly as he shoved her left wrist under her right and leaned on both with bruising force.

Breathing heavily, they lay still for a moment, muscles straining, his weight fully atop her. He had her arms pinned above her head with one hand. She struggled wildly, but the leverage was on his side. His body was pressed against hers, a fact that would have, under other circumstances, have been intensely provocative. Blight it, she was finding it a bit provocative now, distractingly so in the midst of battle. She set the thought aside and strained to free an arm.

Then she felt the cold line of metal against her throat, and froze. A light of unholy glee came into his red eyes, inches from hers.

Her throat still burned from the Shout. She tried to use the Voice anyway, but the power evaded her. Too soon. She reached out with her mind for Lucien, but less than a day had passed since his last summoning, and the Void would not open for her. She began, slowly, to realize that she was about to die.

She didn't seem to feel an appropriate terror. Instead, a slow heat of rage grew in her chest, smoldering like the fires of Red Mountain. So this was how the Morag Tong repaid those who saved their lives. She let the fury show in her face. She might die, but she would show her killer no fear.

"Do it," she whispered, putting all the venom she could muster into the words. She hoped her eyes burned as his did.

He was motionless for a moment. When he spoke, there was another kind of heat in his voice. "You have no idea how much I would like to."

Thank you <3 I'm sorry for leaving you hanging so long with this last update! I hope to post the rest of the story pretty soon - the worst of the issues that were delaying me finally got resolved (only 4 months late).
