THALES ~ 13
(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)There was no way to start this conversation. There was absolutely no path she can take to keep Vilkas from losing his head over what she was about to say. Her eyes were trying to stare at anything but him, and it was hard because he looked exceptionally adorable today. His stubble, the silly smile adorning his face—it made Thales want to hug him and never let him go. Which was the most ridiculous notion, the man was almost twice her age. Still, there is a deep desire for Vilkas to take her words as encouragement for how amazing a teacher he is instead of the many blatant lies she’s been telling him for months.
How does one start this conversation?
A rough but warm hand grabbed hers and squeezed it reassuringly, encouraging. “Take your time.”
So patient, so perfect. He deserved better than her.
Both were currently sitting on the edge of Sapphire’s bed. Her own had a collection of weapons awaiting to be traded for gold.
Somehow, sitting wasn’t good enough, so the redhead sprung off the mattress and walked in a circle before facing him once again. The slight frown made her nervous and then it made her realize that her own nervousness was making her seem suspicious. Which is something she didn’t want to appear as, that would just make him frown more and then things will spiral out of control like they usually do. Because nothing in her life is easy, can be easy, will ever be easy.
“I…” A nervous laugh escaped her and she started to scratch her neck anxiously. It was now or never. “I honestly don’t know how to tell you this.”
“With words.” There was no humour in his tone, only a serious demeanor and complete attention on her.
Divines, she’s faced monsters that only existed in legends! Travel down moldy, disgusting crypts and gone far beyond anyone’s imagination with Serana. There’s no way she’s unable to face this. Shaking her head, her body tensed up as if it were bracing for battle and looked straight into the beautiful, silver eyes. Somehow this felt like battle as all the happy events in her life flashed before her. Her stomach jumped to the realization that many involved Vilkas.
“I am the Dragonborn.”
A single blink was the man’s reaction. Thales could almost see the memories rushing through his mind, figuring things out, putting the pieces together ever since the day she walked in from absorbing her first dragon soul. The moment she started lying to him, creating this made up life in order to avoid scaring him away, but instead- no point in going there. It’s all over, for the better or for the worst.
After a couple of minutes of silence, she wasn’t sure whether she should continue explaining or wait for him to say something. He just sat there, staring at her intently. Probably wondering when he allowed himself to get close to a liar. Or when he allowed her to get close to him.
“Not long ago,” he spoke and she snapped her head in attention, “I asked you to help me be free of my lycanthropy-my curse, and I did it because I trust you.”
Their eyes were locked on each others, and so far his face doesn’t show anything. No sign of displeasure, no sign of disappointment. It was odd, because Vilkas is a man that doesn’t fear expressing how he feels. One can easily tell how he feels by looking at his face, except now.
The “I know,” from her was ignored by the Nord as he continued to speak.
“I have never trusted anyone like I trust you. I can safely say that if I know there is someone that will always have my back, besides my brother, it would be you. Which is odd because we haven’t known each other for long. Granted, the life of people like us doesn’t usually reach as long as it has. I’m a warrior, I’m a mercenary. I can leave for a job any day and never return. When we first met, you did not appeal to me, but I knew there was something different in you than say, Aela. Thus our bond began to grow into something more than just a teacher and his underling.”
THALES ~ 13b
(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)“When the thief revealed to me you were the Guildmaster to their organization, I felt like I could rip his head off. But I didn’t, because I realized he was trying to brace me to something more than just letting me in on a secret. Is this what that was?”
“Yes.” She spoke before thinking. “Maybe. Brynjolf does things and sometimes I don’t know why. He’s a brilliant man. He also seems to have appointed himself as my older brother.”
“Very well. Is there anything else you would like me to know?” He didn’t ask if there was anything he ‘needed’ to know. The conversation was still bizarre and floating in the air, more or less.
“I might be Ulfric’s daughter.” Tact wasn’t her forte. But he knows that, and the worst that could’ve happened didn’t.
Nodding, the man looked up to her and smiled softly. He stretched his hand towards her and her body immediately relaxed. She did it, she didn’t screw this up. Or better yet, the circumstances didn’t screw it up.
When his warm hand wrapped around hers, she was immediately engulfed in his strong and long awaited embrace. She felt as if she was truly embracing, instead of constantly wondering if the closeness of their bodies would reveal her lies to him. It was an exhillarating feeling, like the one she got when she absorbed two souls at once.
She felt like flying.
“So this might be the end to your journey,” he breathed into her hair, sending a shiver down her back.
“It’s hard to believe you didn’t run out the door, let alone see the end of my journey.”
Vilkas chuckled and pulled her back, staring into her eyes with, dare she see it, love. “You have the thief to thank for that. He is very persuasive, I can see why he’s a thief.”
She chuckled out of pure euphoria. It felt as if her heart was stuck in her throat.
“I have a question.” Vilkas pulled himself away from her, sitting back on the bed while crossing his arms across his chest. “What do you mean you might be Ulfric’s daughter? Are you not completely sure or…?”
“I saw it in his face. When he talked to me for the first time I felt he knew who I was.”
“Which means either he knows exactly who you are or he suspected of your existence time ago.”
With a nod, Thales moved and sat next to Vilkas’ burly frame.
“Why are you being so understanding? You have done nothing but yell at me and insult me ever since I left Jorrvaskr.” She spoke after a minute of silence. This was probably something she shouldn’t bring up, everything is going unexpectedly well. Yet, she needs to know. Where does Vilkas truly stand?
The hand sitting between them moved to caress her cheek as both stared into each other’s eyes. “I’ve spent long enough being upset at you—at myself. There is nothing I want more in this life but stand by your side until the Divines take us, if you’ll let me.”
“Vilkas, I don’t know what to say…”
His smile wavered and his hand dropped, but she instantly pushed herself forward and pressed her lips to him for the first time. Such an unknown sensation, the feeling of his dry lips against hers. She was immediately engulfed in a tight hug, and all her worries were disappearing one by one with each breath they were taking together.
Pulling back slightly, Thales looked at him and smiled. “I’ll have you, Vilkas.”
He smiled back and hugged her again. Once both pulled away from each other, Vilkas extended his hand for her to take it and she did, only to be pulled forward and off the bed.
“I love you Thales, words cannot describe the intensity in which I do. But right now there is something more important you need to resolve.”
Her heart fluttered but she wasn’t sure whether it was from excitement, or anxiety.
She didn’t speak, but he continued on filling in her expected silence. “You have to speak with Ulfric.”
Vilkas’ smirked as she nodded her head in agreement.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-16 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)Setting the papers down, Ulfric tried not to pace as he waited for the company.
It wasn’t a surprise that the girl asked to see him. He too thinks it’s about time they have a moment to address the mammoth in the room. Astounding was the fact that she looked just like her mother. The same small head, the bright red hair. Her eyes though, her eyes were as green and lively, as fierce and unforgiving as his own. There was no mistake, that girl was his. Her age matches, her looks match, the attitude as well. Too many coincidences for this to be a mistake.
His daughter, the thought itself felt foreign even in his own mind.
Audiana the Pirate. The name of the woman she bedded a couple of years after being released from the Thalmor, and years before his rebellion came to life. That woman was a spitfire, that was exactly what caught his attention the day they met close to two decades ago. He can’t help but wonder how Audiana is doing. She was a free woman, too free, nothing could keep her away from her open sea and silver waves. Not even an amulet of Mara from him.
He still has it saved inside a drawer in his sleeping chambers. Handmade, pure gold with rubies, sapphires, and emeralds adorning the front. So young and naive he had been back then. Not innocent, no, the Thalmor made sure to erase that part of him. But nothing stopped him from falling deeply and madly in love with an Imperial woman who belonged to the sea first and to him second.
He can’t help but to wonder whether she sent the girl to him or if the girl came on her own will. Audiana left without a regret, or so it seemed back then when they said their goodbyes that would last forever. There are simply too many questions he has, but he is sure the girl has twice as many. He is set to answer every one of them.
A knock interrupted his thoughts and one of his guards walked in to inform him that the girl was outside. He ordered them to let her in his conference room, to end the inevitable.
A daughter. Someone to carry on his legacy.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-16 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)He wasn’t nervous or scared, not even a little bit surprised really. He knew she lived, where was a mystery, but her existence was nothing new.
“There is no need for an apology. I know you want to speak with me in private, besides, I always have time for my men no matter the circumstance. But girl,” he turned around to look into her eyes, “tell me first how is Audiana.”
The girls stare didn’t falter as she spoke. “My mother perished shortly after my birth. I never met her.”
He was certainly not expecting to hear that.
Time slowed for a second, Ulfric was able to feel the girl’s presence in the room, very powerful and very different from anyone elses.
Her cheeks were flushed, a sign of embarrassment or emotional stress. Her body tense but overall in a guarded stance. It could mean she’s genuinely surprised by his question. Maybe she has caught on to the fact that he knows that she knows.
“How long have you been in Skyrim?”
“Not long. Not a whole year.”
Interesting.
But he felt impotent. This meeting was turning out to be more complex than he thought. So she wasn’t here for money, or power. She didn’t want to kill him or take revenge. Maybe it’s simple, maybe it’s not as complicated as he thinks it is.
“You’re going to be disappointed. I’m not what you think I can be.” He raised his hand and rubbed his chin, his eyes closed. It was a while before either said anything else.
Thales hasn’t moved, frozen in place. He saw her blink a couple of times before smiling softly to herself. Her eyes were starting to shine with unshed tears he could tell.
“I…” She looked off to the side, then relaxed her body while looking back at him. “I wasn’t expecting anything at all. I figured you were long dead. I figured I’d be long dead.”
It didn’t take him long to go back in his memories and know why he shouldn’t accept this girl. He was no father, he was no gentle soul. That ceased to exist many years ago. Actually, there is a doubt that it ever existed. But this, but right now he has an urge from within. A possessive feeling, something driven by the fact that he helped create her and he can protect her. Even when she doesn’t need to. Because despite what her path was like and her life is like, ‘now’ is something he needs to decide on.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Thales.”
“Nice to meet you,” the girl took a couple of steps and extended her hand to him, ”I’m your daughter.”
His reflexes made him grab on to her small, delicate hand, but his quick thinking told him to take her hand like an opportunity being offered to him of some normality in his crazy, out of control life.
Is he too old? Yes. Would it make a difference? Maybe. But is it too late?
Never.
Ulfric pulled her hand to him until she was flushed against his chest, and his awkward but big and warm arms wrapped around her. Her own smaller ones went up around his back, and her hands gripped and pulled on his tunic.
It is never too late, he thought to himself as the girl started sobbing against his chest and he bent his head to kiss the top of hers.

AN:
This short little chapter took me FOREVER OMG. I just had the biggest doubt on how to play out their meeting. So i figured something somewhat awkward but enlightening for Ulfric would be perfect. I hope everyone likes it! The story is almost at its end... and although I'm sad, I think I'm going to do some extra content after last chapter where I give you snippets of all the characters around this story! XD Brynjolf x Serana? Am I right!? ANYWAY, thank you all who reviews and reads, and thank you to those who wished me a great trip! WOOHOO I loved visiting sooo many states on the same trip!

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)As I was going to write XD:
Awww, you don't like them? It doesn't have to be romantic haha I wasn't planning on that anyway. Actually, the first chapter where they are sleeping on the same bed wasn't meant suggestively hahaha they were just resting and there happens to be a big bed others can share. :D So no worries, if you don't like them romantically, you can still see it as friendship! :D
