How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Write the Porn
Date: 2011-10-26 12:45 am (UTC)OMG OMG OMG there is so much here!
Yup. And you are under no obligation to read all the backlog. You can if you like; I recommend bookmarking fills that you are interested in as you go. The delicious archives might help you find things that interest you, too.
Ew, OMG that is so WRONG!
Look, unless it’s an under-15 pairing, let it go. Whether it’s a kink you don’t like or a pairing you hate with the fury of a thousand blazing suns, let it go. If you want to have angry discussions on why Bodhan Feddic/Erlina is either the One True Pairing or a hideous abomination, go and have them on the Bioware Social Forum or other relevant community. Don't rain on the porn parade.
If it is an under-15 pairing, go to the FAQ thread or use the LiveJournal private messaging service to alert a moderator (the “dragonage_kink” ID).
I don’t know if my writing is good enough.
I don’t know, either. The only way to find out is to post something.
I don’t know if I can write about all these pulsating hot wet slick euphemisms.
I started with a fill that was more saucy than porny, because that’s where my comfort level was. There are plenty of fills looking for comedy or angst without explicit kinky sex.
Also, it turns out you can write a fair amount of pretty kinky and explicit stuff without too many over-the-top euphemisms. I learned a lot by carefully reading some of the fills I admired for being both scorchingly hot and extremely well-written, and took notice of which slang terms I favored and which felt too juvenile. Pretty soon, I had a working vocabulary of smut jargon I felt comfortable using.
I like this prompt but I’d like to change it a little... maybe make a twosome into a threesome, add some supporting kink...
Personally, I leave a comment and ask the original poster (OP) if the changes I have in mind are all right. If there’s no reply, your best bet might be to make a new prompt that describes your story and then fill it.
Isn’t filling your own prompts gauche?
Eh, it’s allowed, and it’s a better option than leaving a fill that diverges in some large ways from the prompt, in my opinion. And honestly, who's going to know?
Hey, can I post all my stories to a LiveJournal account and use that ID to post here? Then people could find all my stuff!
We call that a sock puppet and no, you can’t. You can certainly maintain an archive off the kink meme and you can link to it as often as you like.
Should I post in parts or all at once?
People do both. Some people like reading whatever’s available as soon as it’s ready; some people only read finished fills. Do what makes you happy.
My fill is disappearing into the right side of the screen. :(
Here’s a neat trick for long, multipart fills:
Write your first part, Hot Pulsating Euphemisms (1/10) as a reply to the OP’s prompt.
Write your second part, Hot Pulsating Euphemisms (2/10) as a reply to Part 1.
Write your third through tenth parts also as replies to Part 1. Go up to Part 1, hit Reply, post your next part. Wash, rinse, repeat.
This gives you a nice even line of replies under your first part, and a reader can easily expand them all by hitting “Expand” on your Part 1.
How do you get the bold and the italics and the small text and all that?

Someone just awarded me all of the Internets. What do I do with them?
The best use I’ve found for them is to just pass them along. Award all the Internets to the next awesome fill you read!
Seriously, it’s most excellent to leave feedback for fills you read and enjoyed. Even just “I read this and enjoyed it, thanks” is most welcome. Nothing makes an auth!anon feel fuzzier inside then a few kind comments. Old fill? Comment anyway. Busy fill? Comment anyway. Just remember to keep your feedback positive. This isn't the place for hard crit; if you're interested in getting some yourself, try adding a link to your livejournal or ff.net account.
How to Be a Civil and Well-Mannered Kink Meme Pervert
Date: 2011-10-26 12:48 am (UTC)Seriously. Don’t be mean. Don’t be rude, don’t be condescending, don’t be incendiary.
If you need specifics...
Don’t trash other people.
-isms aren’t sexy. Don’t be disrespectful of real people’s real lives. Men, women, queer, straight, asexual, cis, trans, monogamous, polyamorous, parents, childfree, professional, bohemian, able-bodied, disabled... they’re all reading. None of them want to see slurs referring to them in your prompts.
Don’t trash other kinks.
Even in jest. For the people who enjoy whatever you’re trashing or calling disgusting and deviant, it’s not funny.
Don’t offer critiques unless they’re asked for.
This is not the forum for constructive criticism. You are free to not like that policy, but it is the policy. If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
On the other hand...
Leave feedback
You don’t have to say every fill is the best thing you’ve ever read if you don’t mean it. But if you read something and you did like it, it’s very nice to leave a note for the author. The authors get nothing for their work - not even name recognition in most cases - except for the warm fuzzy of knowing that someone, somewhere, likes their fill.
This goes double if you requested a fill.
Even if you don’t like the fill you got, you can at least thank the author for their work.
If you have a paid LiveJournal account, you can register for alerts to your prompts. Then when there’s a response (either a question, a comment or a fill) you’ll get an email. If you don’t have a paid LJ account, you can make yourself a little bookmark folder for your prompts. Check them every so often, even once they’re months old. Authors do fill old prompts.
Do prompt for what you do like.
Trashing popular pairings or kinks falls under “Don’t be mean,” above. Don’t be mean - be creative about getting what you do want to see.
I expect just about every anon on here has something that they roll their eyes about. Don’t be mean - just ignore those prompts and fills and focus on the ones you do like.
Before you prompt, do check the delicious archive.
If the exact thing you’ve requested has already been requested in the last month, please wait for a month to pass before requesting it again.
If the exact thing you’ve requested has been filled once or many times in the past (but not in the past month), it would help to come up with a slightly different spin on it. If the existing fills don’t scratch your itch, figure out what would, and request that.
Don’t be mean.
It bears repeating. Even if someone is mean to you first, don’t be mean. Contact a moderator (the ‘skyrim_kink’ ID - use the FAQ thread or a private message) and report the meanness. Getting into ugly fights just spreads the drama around. People can be wrong on the Internet. Moderators can delete them. Let that work for you.
