ANNOUNCEMENTS: UPDATED 12/16/2017
Happy Holidays, fellow Kinkmemers! I have returned and have no reasonable excuse for my absence except LIFE. I will be working on updating the archives. If anyone sees anything amiss, please let me know.
I am also hoping to find another Mod and an Archivist.
The more dedicated people we have in this Meme the less chance of it dying. I admit that being the sole keeper of the Meme is not great for the fandom. If something were to happen to me, for good, this place would go the way of the Fallout Kink Meme. Let's not let that happen! If anyone would be interested in Modding/Archiving, please drop me a line. Thanks! <3

Summary: A young mage realizes she's in over her head when given a task from the arch-mage, and enlists the help of Farkas.
She'd been horribly unprepared. Now, at the time of accepting the Arch-mage's quest, the young woman had felt confident enough. Though her specialty was restoration, Nathalia was a competent wielder of destruction, and the ignorant girl had believed a working knowledge would be suitable for the task at hand.
Nope.
As it turned out, using her magic under the watchful supervision and instruction of her teachers was not the same as practically using it in battle. Of course she'd learned this the hard way, between the bandits, the sabre cats, the Thalmor agents (who'd seemed convinced she was a priestess for Talos, for some reason...), the band of Forsworn she'd stumbled across... And then there'd been the incident when she'd accidentally placed herself between a bear cub and it's very angry mamma. And then her mare had nearly unseated her when they'd come across a pair of wolves. The silly thing despised dogs for all she was worth, and was prone to acting stupid when confronted.
The only reason she was still alive after all of that was thanks to her horse; the piebald mare had a keen eye for threats and a strong flight instinct, which Nathalia had used to her advantage. At least until she learned to use her magic practically. The only time, outside of the college, she'd ever had to actually defend herself had been an exploration in a ruin, which one room had been glanced over when there was in fact a Draugr no one had noticed.
Still though, there'd been three students and the teacher, so needless to say the threat hadn't been too real.
But this? Well, Nathalia was finally getting what she wanted - a taste of the real world- and it sucked. Having lived within the confines of those walls since she was just a baby, to say she'd been sheltered would be the mother of understatements. But she couldn't -wouldn't go back. Nope. She did, however, need a game plan. While many of the items she needed retrieving, (and the behaviors she needed to study), she could either buy or otherwise freely obtain, some of them she was going to have to fight for. And she was going to need help. Thankfully, the Arch-mage had realized this, and gave her a good sum to use as needed.
So that was how she'd ended up in front of Jorrvaskr. Might as well go straight to the best, and all that, right? Nathalia really didn't want to gamble with a questionable sell sword when her life was pretty much hanging the balance of her choice in companion. Hesitating at the door, the young woman bounced around on her heels slightly, nerves gnawing at her slowly. There really wasn't anything to prepare her for what was going to happen, so Nathalia took a deep breath before opening the door.
Whatever she'd been expecting, it wasn't... A meadhall. By the Nine, it looked as if there'd been a wild party the night before. Hesitation crept up on her again, doubt slowly entering her mind.
"And what brings you to the hall of the Companions?"
A male voice spoke behind her, and though his words were innocent enough, they were enough to shatter the skittish mage's nerves.
herp derp A!A forgot the most important tag:

Anyway, hopefully there will be more words from this anon tomorrow.

Date: 2013-02-22 01:58 pm (UTC)"And what brings you to the hall of the Companions?"
A male voice spoke behind her, and though his words were innocent enough, they were enough to shatter the skittish mage's nerves.
Spinning around with a repressed shriek, one of the mage's hands clamped over her mouth to help prevent said shriek. Removing her hand slowly, Nathalia took a deep breath to settle herself. "You scared me."
"My apologize- I didn't intend to sneak up on you." Now that her heart wasn't pounding a mile a minute, she could see the man in front of her was older, with grey hair; though his body seemed to be going, he still held an upright, dignified posture. "I am Kodlak, Harbinger of the Companions."
It takes her a moment to recall her brief knowledge of the Companions- she never did bother much with anyone outside the college. Harbinger. Not technically the leader, but he was for all intents and purposes, the head of this guild. There was suddenly another layer of nerves eating at her, like when the Arch-mage would calmly walk into a room of his practicing pupils and merely observe.
It would probably be a good idea if she started using her words as opposed to just awkwardly staring at anything that wasn't the man before her- While not typically one to shy away from eye contact, she was very nervous, and it was showing.
Huh, that was a lovely cobweb.
"I'm Nathalia. I have some...tasks," The young mage staggered along with her words, trying to not be so nervous as she realized her behavior could be misinterpreted for attempting to pull a fast one. "set by the Arch-mage. I'll need help, and was wondering if there was any way the Companions could help?"
It was naturally assumed this assistance would be rewarded with gold, so Nathalia didn't bother mentioning it.
The aging man nodded, before motioning that she follow him. Nathalia was quickly on his heels, turning her head to avoid the questioning gazes. Being led downstairs, she curiously gazed at any room they passed with an open door; they mostly seemed to be just bedrooms, with a larger room filled with smaller beds. They eventually made it to a table with two chairs, and Kodlak gestured with a hand that she sit down.
Promptly plopping into the chair, she watched him curiously, unsure of why they came down here. "I hope you don't mind my asking a few question- if I'm to send one of my own, then I'd like to know a few things so as to send the best match."
Releasing a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding, Nathalia found herself nodding again. It wasn't as if her tasks were top secret; obviously one wouldn't want her announcing them to the world- but surely this would be alright.
"Do you prefer long range, or close combat?"
"Long range." Typical answer for a mage, of course- it was difficult to cast a spell with your opponent sitting right on top of you.
Kodlak nods. "How well can you hold your own?"
At this, the mage shifts around slightly. "I... Still have much to learn. I know how to use destruction in theory; but it's much more different when your opponent is ready to kill you." While hardly a teenage girl barely away from her mother's side, Nathalia felt at least that she was young enough for that to be acceptable for an answer.
The man's face remained impassive but still gentle, clearly wrapped in his own thoughts as she assumed he was ticking through his mental list of Companions.
"If it's not of a sensitive nature, might I ask what some of these tasks entail?"
"There's a few caves they wanted me to check, for any enchanted items. Some animals they wanted me to observe- and a few of the 'rarer' ingredients, though I'd mostly get those just by talking to the right people...."
He nods, looks like he's thinking again, before appearing to come to a conclusion.
"Based on what you said, I believe Farkas will be a good match for you- he has the skill and is quite experienced."
Curiosity nibbled lightly, naturally, as to what this Farkas was like. At the very least, she hoped he wasn't as foul tempered as some of the more seasoned warriors she'd come across.

Date: 2013-02-22 02:02 pm (UTC)Next thing she knows, Kodlak's lead her to a room, and when the door opens, reveals a giant of a man. Nerves getting her once more, she shifted behind Kodlak slightly- the action did not go unnoticed, but no one said anything.
"Farkas, this is Nathalia. She needs assistance in some tasks for the Mages' College. Will you be able to escort her?"
And the nerves are back, watching him as he's looking at her and debating, before finally nodding his head.

Date: 2013-03-05 03:33 pm (UTC)Waiting a moment to see if Farkas would say anything, when his silence continued, Kodlak spoke, turning back towards Nathalia.
"And how soon were you planning to leave?"
"Tomorrow morning, before dawn, if that's not too soon?"
The last part was directed at Farkas- since he was the one who would be coming with her, she didn't want him unprepared because there hadn't been enough warning.
However, the sun had barely peaked over the horizon by the time she'd arrived on their steps, so surely almost an entire day would be enough time?
The Nord simply nodded once more. "That will be long enough." The fact that they'd likely been given far less warning and been demanded to leave that much faster didn't cross her mind in the slightest. After all, any exploration for any given cavern (at least, when the students were invited along) was planned days in advance.
A soft shiver ran down her spine as he'd finally spoke. Slightly surprised by this reaction, her eyes flicked about a moment more before settling back on the two men. Farkas was looking at her, and she tilted her head to the side, using her hood to obscure whatever expression was currently on her face. Nathalia also didn't take into consideration that it might be strange to keep her hood up- even indoors. It was simply a common practice among the college to keep them up if they were being worn. It could prove to give one the upper hand in battle- if the opponent couldn't predetermine what spell one would cast, (due to the hood obscuring the face, and by extension preventing the reading of lips) then they wouldn't be as prepare to counter it. Split second advantages had made and broken battles, from what the history books had to say on the subject.
"Are you staying at the Bannered Mare?" Her expression took a turn for surprised as to why he would care where she was staying until it dawned on her that he'd, of course, need to know where to find her in the morning.
"Yes, I am."
A second more of silence ensued, before Nathalia awkwardly nodded, her body bobbing in a way that seemed to be half a curtsey. "Thank you again... I have some things I need to do before we go, so I guess I'll leave..."
Though the way out was fairly straightforward, Kodlak escorted her back, and as the doors to Jorrvaskr shut softly behind her, an overwhelming sensation of relief came over her. That wasn't so bad, in hindsight... Though the entire conversation had been a bit stiff, but that was to be expected for a first interaction, right?
Putting the thoughts out from her mind, she wandered between the shops and stalls for a good part of the day, gathering odds and ends that she would need for various things; potions and the like. It wasn't until the sun was setting and the shopkeeps closing up that she headed back to the Mare- having purchased her room for the night that morning before going to the Companions, the mage silently weaved through the crowd, ignoring the call of a drunken man who seemed to not care that she was completely covered, and looked like a troll for all he knew. The warmth of the inn was a welcome contrast from the outside cold, which had taken a bitter turn when the sun sank down.
Once in her room, she stopped for a moment, before locking the door and crawling into bed. Despite the noise, she was quickly asleep, dead to the world.
