"Behind Closed Doors" M!DB/Balgruuf 7/7 + tags
Date: 2013-01-20 07:55 am (UTC)“Why should we? He’s a baby,” Dagny said.
Dyce grinned, showing a lot of teeth. “Because if you don’t, I’m going to tell every child in Whiterun you got coal for Yuletide.” The expressions on their faces were enough to reassure Dyce that they’d do as he suggested.
Balgruuf stroked his beard, and followed Dyce to the front door. “How did you know about the coal?” he asked.
“Um.” Dyce tried to think of something plausible.
“You gave my children coal?”
“It’s a long story. I’ll tell you next time I visit.”
“Soon, I hope,” Balgruuf commented. Dyce winked, and hefted the Ebony Blade on his back.

A/N: I do love me some fix-it fanfiction.
Re: "Behind Closed Doors" M!DB/Balgruuf 7/7 + tags
Date: 2013-01-20 11:06 am (UTC)I've enjoyed Dyce since you introduced him to the meme, but as my love for him grew, so did my fear that we might run into that little Civil War issue and find ourselves on opposite sides. I was almost certain I could get over it, if it happened...but I wasn't sure.
Then I saw this fic. Dyce/Balgruuf. That seemed to confirm my worst fears. From what I've read of Dyce, he could never betray one of his lovers in the way the game makes us betray Balgruuf. Honestly, I almost didn't read it. I didn't want to know.
You took a third option. I didn't see it coming, and I love you forever for it. Dyce actually got Balgruuf to take the damned axe. If anyone could do it, of course it would be Dyce.
I'm grinning so hard right now.
The rest of this was lovely as well. The plotty bits. Dyce's interactions with Nelkir. Reference to the Christmas fic. And, of course, the porn.
Forgive the long rambling comment, this fic just made me so damned happy.

Date: 2013-01-20 04:36 pm (UTC)I loved this so much. Dyce helping Nelkir get free of Mephala and treating the boy like a human being despite him being a little snot. Nelkir and Balgruuf reconciling. Nelkir wanting a story! SO CUTE!
And then the unexpected Civil War compromise and Dyce persuading Balgruuf to go Stormcloak. My heart! I love fanfics that don't just blindly follow the game questlines, but have a bit of imagination behind them.
And then the smut. Oh, the smut. My gods, the smut. Words cannot express my admiration for the smut, nor my love for a big manly Nord warrior secretly wanting a little Breton guy to top him.
Threesome with Ulfric!!Amazing job as always, anon. I loved it.
OP. Now with smilies and capslock!
Date: 2013-01-20 04:43 pm (UTC)First of all, LMFAO DYCE FILL that alone made me happy, you've no idea.
But aside from that, it was everything I hoped for! Balgruuf's horror upon being told what's up with Nelkir, aaaaaaah, and the way Dyce finally manages to lay the matter to rest. Poor Nelkir! But yes, there are not a whole lot of grown men who could resist, so even if it's easier for a child, he's still terribly lucky Dyce is awesome.
And re-bonding with Balgruuf *___* Poor guy, so on edge. But I'm glad things are getting patched up. Storytime ♥
And the porn! Hehehe, Balgruuf, I didn't know you had it in you...! My giant-ass review comments and porn don't get along, so all I can do is say it was awesome and leave it at that. Also Dyce's innuendo. XD
"The only thing easy about all of this is me."
LOLOLOLOL LAUGHING FOREVER OH MY GOD and it somehow managed to not break the tension. But man T___T I have so wanted to read an alternate version of the civil war questline, because the fact that there is no third option besides PUT IT OFF FOREVER upsets me! Thank you so much for filling another one of my Skyrim fanfic needs! I'm sure we'll all be happy with wherever it goes 8D
...I love how after the whole civil war scene is done with Dyce is all AIGHT BACK TO COCKSUCKING.
In short, I loved it loved it loved it, thank you so much, and DYCE FOREVER YISSS. I love you forever and I wish you luck with all your future fills and Civil War things. And thank you again.
Ahhh *___*

Date: 2013-01-22 04:04 pm (UTC)I'm well aware of your talent for Fix-it fiction and so I'm glad you brought it to bear here. Not only did you fix the Daedric quest (which is a pretty weak one) but you also fixed the Stormcloak/Balgruuf conflict, and I can't thank you enough for that.
I'm a Stormcloak through and through, and it always breaks my heart to turn on Balgruuf. (I do it, but I hate it)
But let me spend a little more time on this. This story is about obligations and choices. I feel like it's a sister piece to the Vilkas story. Vilkas's story was about the responsiblities we can't escape, this is about the ones we can. The wisdom, as they say, is knowing the difference.
And it's Balgruuf-easily the nicest and most approachable of the Jarls. Let's face it, there are plenty of Jarls I could throw to the wolves without a second thought- Siddgeir, Korir, Skald: be seeing you! The writers made an extra effort to make Balgruuf likeable and fair, and to make Whiterun a city that you care about, so we're more invested in what happens to them. You manage to keep that same level of committment to both the city and it's rular.
Your characterization is excellent here, as always. You get that Nelkir's withdrawn and creepy, but basically a good, if lost, child. That Bagruuf's a concerned Jarl and father, proud, but willing to do what must be done. Dyce is able to connect with both of them, and that's one of the things that makes him special. But I also appreciate how Dyce has gained knowledge and matured through this. This is not the same man who traded Nelacar's ass for the Black Star. That growth has been hard won, and I love that.
I also love that Dyce has gotten to the same place I go to- which is the only winners in the civil war is the Thalmor, so I often end that before I get very far in the main quest.
So, let me poke your brain a bit. One character Dyce hasn't done, and it's kinda glaring considering his established kink for older men (sorry, you're not escaping that one between Mercer, Erandor & Balgruuf) is Ulfric. And yeah, I know. He's a: overdone and b: complex. (And yes, there's a cracky 3 paragraph thing, but I'm ignoing that for now)
The other huge problem with Ulfric is you can never tell if he's still under the Thalmor influence. That, at least, always holds me back from supporting him wholehearedly. But what if Dyce decided to break Ulfric's programing? Just let that cook in your head.
The final word is Excellent. Dyce is in fine form here and the story is so well paced I could kick you. Thank you so much for continuing these. I adore Dyce and think I always will.
Re: "Behind Closed Doors" M!DB/Balgruuf 7/7 + tags
Date: 2013-01-22 11:23 pm (UTC)As much as it would be fun to see Ulfric get on his knees (and as plausible as I think it would be that he'd do it for the cause,) Dyce isn't that guy anymore. He wouldn't make his help conditional on sex - if Ulfric managed to persuade him, he'd do what he thinks is right. But I'm not sure what takes the place of that. Dyce only goes to war very, very reluctantly, and after the end of the Main Quest as well - so by then he knows all there is to know about the Thalmor and Ulfric. By that point, however reluctantly, Dyce is a political operator a well.
Ulfric's hard to write too. For the longest time I couldn't understand why fandom liked him because I didn't; he struck me as a politician through and through, with plenty of ideas I didn't like. Now my opinion's a bit more nuanced, but I still don't have a handle on him entirely.
Re: "Behind Closed Doors" M!DB/Balgruuf 7/7 + tags
Date: 2013-01-23 02:15 pm (UTC)But if you can get it, he's got a great story voice. And I do believe you can get him, because it's not that far from Trip. They share the victim, warrior, hero, and lore. You need to find the villian & Politican, and hell, Dyce can carry that.
Plus, Dyce and him have some unquie elements that they share; The greybeards, which Dyce hasn't said much about, and the Voice. I'd be interested in just a conversation between Dyce nad Ulfric over the voice. No sex needed.
But sex would probably happen, because a: they're both very sexual people and b: they both use sex as a tool. (It may not be explicitly cannon, but you know Ulfric does.)
And I'd love to see them do some processing over the Thalmor. You've spent a good bit of time developing the Daedra angle, what can you do with power-hungery elves?
It's a request. Nothing more. it speaks to you or it doesn't. But I think you would do something amazing with it.
Disclosure: I freely admit I don't have Ulfric's voice. I've written him, but I had to age him and marry him off first before I could get any traction. I've got other stuff in the works with him, but, yeah, hard!
And you know how to reach me if you want to chat about this. ;-)
