F!DB/Odahviing: "The View From the Balcony" 2/3
(Anonymous) 2015-06-29 12:17 am (UTC)(link)“It’s a beautiful night,” Kiera said, half-teasing as she leaned on the railing. “I wish you could see it.”
“You could free me and allow me to see, Dovahkiin. Even a dovah wuth such as myself can appreciate the stars,” the dragon replied, doing his best to stretch his neck within its trap. Kiera smirked over her shoulder, shaking her head.
“After all the effort it took to get you in there? Absolutely not,” she said. “Not until it’s time to go.” She paused, approaching her prisoner cautiously. “It was a good fight,” she added politely. “One of the best I’ve had since I got here.” Odahviing snorted, glancing at the Imperial as she took a seat in front of him.
“And one of the best I’ve had in years. You make a formidable opponent, kendov mal. Being captured by you and your muz was a surprise, one that will be difficult to explain to my zeymahhe.” Kiera smiled lightly, nodding her empathy.
“I can imagine. All these dragons don’t seem to understand that it’s their blood in this little body of mine.” She paused, tilting her head as she observed her companion. “I’m not a dragon, I know.”
“Yet not quite a human, either,” Odahviing chimed in, nodding his large head. “That is the definition of Dovahkiin, after all. You walk the line between joor and dov. A legend to your own, though.” Kiera’s eyes softened, and the dragon’s narrowed. “What troubles you?”
“A legend to my own,” the Imperial echoed musingly. “The guards who came up here with me…one of them wouldn’t stop talking about what an honor it was to work with me. How excited he was to watch the Dragonborn fight a dragon.” That very guard had been the first to die in the battle, grabbed off the balcony by Odahviing’s huge talons and hurled into the distance. “You killed three of the guards, and nearly killed the Jarl of this city. He’s being treated for burns right now.” She sighed deeply, and rested her head against the wall. “I don’t want to keep leading people to their deaths in the name of the ‘legend.’”
“That’s war, Dovahkiin,” Odahviing reminded her. “Leaders command their followers’ loyalty, and battle has its costs. Those guards knew that when they followed you in…I knew that when you made me your prisoner.” He growled, exasperated. “Krosis, imagine that. The Dovahkiin, taking her first prisoner of war, and she takes me.” When Kiera remained silent, the dragon eyed her suspiciously, but continued. “You’re a general in a war now, Dovahkiin, whether you want to be or not.”
“Will you follow me, then?” Kiera asked, leaning forward on her knees. “If this ‘general’ has defeated you?” A deep rumble that she assumed with a laugh stemmed from the dragon’s throat.
“Niid, Dovahkiin. You have not defeated Alduin yet. It would be unwise to leave my thuri for one who has not proven herself against him yet.” Odahviing shifted slightly, and Kiera felt a pang of guilt at keeping him captured. Nonetheless, she rose to her feet, moving to curl up under his knee and rest against his scaly side. The dragon blinked, glancing back at the girl.
“What are you doing?”
“Not taking your blood, if that’s what you’re worried about,” Kiera replied playfully, closing her eyes blissfully. “I didn’t expect it to be so warm under here. It feels nice.”
“Vonmindoraan,” Odahviing grumbled, resting his head as much as possible with the wooden contraption around his neck. “I am not an affectionate creature, Dovahkiin.” The Imperial grinned, snuggling up against the dragon nonetheless.
“You can be tonight,” she said. Odahviing huffed, but lowered his wing to shield the Dragonborn from the cold. Small as she was, the feeling of her warmth underneath him was oddly enjoyable, if a bit confusing.
“Why are you being so kind?” he asked. “As I’ve said, I’m your captive. There’s no need for…whatever it is you are doing.”
“Consider it a matter of respect between two dragons,” the girl said softly. “It’s not like me to mistreat someone in my care.”
F!DB/Odahviing: "The View From the Balcony" 3/3
(Anonymous) 2015-06-29 01:03 am (UTC)(link)“So you are caring for me, is that it?” he scoffed. “That must be your joor side speaking. Compassion is hard to find among the dov.”
“You seem compassionate enough,” Kiera pointed out, resting her arms on the wing that was draped across her body. “You seem to like this whole cuddling thing.” Odahviing growled, shaking his head firmly.
“This affection has a name?” he sighed. “I don’t understand.” Kiera rolled her eyes, but merely snuggled closer to the dragon.
“That’s too bad. We mortals have quite a bit of fun with it.” She smirked lightly. “Sometimes it leads to other things.”
“What other things are those?”
“Nothing I could show you.” Kiera grinned to herself, and Odahviing’s chest heaved with another sigh.
“You are a confusing one, Dovahkiin. Surely you know that,” he grunted. Kiera smiled lightly.
“That’s one that I hear from humans and dragons, my friend,” she laughed. In the silence that followed, the dragon prisoner mused on their conversation so far, and lowered his head again.
“Dovahkiin,” he began cautiously.
“Mm?”
“My statement from before remains. I will not support you in the battle against Alduin. It is your time to prove your strength against him.” He paused, glancing back at the Imperial girl. “However, you have proven your strength against me, and that is no small feat. I believe it is likely that you will prevail.” Kiera looked up, her face softening, then squirmed out from under the dragon’s wing.
“Thank you, Odahviing. I believe the same,” she said, approaching his head again. Before he could react, she planted a kiss on his snout, and he tilted his head, staring down at her. The girl returned to his side, ready to rest at long last.
Irileth had been sent out early to oversee the guards as they switched shifts, and to check the rigging on the trap. When she opened the doors to the balcony, she stopped in her tracks, eyes widening at the sight before her.
Kiera, esteemed Dragonborn and Thane of Whiterun, was asleep on the stone floor of the balcony, curled up close to her dragon prisoner. Odahviing was asleep as well, looking more relaxed than the housecarl knew a dragon could look.
It truly had been an unusual week.
“It’s…time for you to switch shifts,” she grumbled to the two guards flanking her. “You know what to do. I need a drink.” With that, she returned to the palace, shaking her head.
