THALES ~ 9
Date: 2013-12-07 11:19 pm (UTC)The city itself was like any other city in Skyrim: dull and cold. Riften is not a city he visits often, if ever. He tries to avoid it like the plague because his values never seem to fit through the wooden gates that keep the city enclosed. Vilkas doesn’t necessarily mean that the city is below him; there’s bad in every city in every region. This time thought, he’s here because he has to. Walking through the streets made him feel uncomfortable on a special level. He’s an incredibly strong man, and there is no way on this earth anyone could steal from him. Yet, as he passes people, the nagging feeling in his brain that they might be thieves comes up and doesn’t want to leave him alone. He thinks it has more to do with the fact that Thales would rather be a thief than the Harbinger, and that makes his saliva hard to swallow.
Vilkas vaguely remembers when Thales told him the details on how to find the Thieves Guild hideout, and so he ventured into the middle of the city looking for the god awful man that degraded his young underling in hopes of finding Thales instead. His grey eyes looked around for that face that he hates so much, and eventually found the thief in the market, selling stuff he doesn’t care to know about.
Brynjolf was, to his chagrin, an incredibly charming redheaded thief he met twice before. Thales had asked both him and Vilkas to help her out on two different assignments she had been doing months ago. The two personalities had instantly clashed with one another, and continued to do so during the undertakings. To say that they drove Thales crazy was an understatement. Vilkas could chuckle with delight at the memories if it weren't for the strained relationship between him and the Imperial.
“I’ve been looking for you.” The brunet spoke, but the redhead didn’t turn around to look at him in the face.
“I don’t see why you would.” Brynjolf moved around some bottles that were sitting in front of his table and placed them all inside a deep bag hanging from his shoulder.
“I want to talk to Thales.” And this time the redhead turned around to stare at him in disbelief. It baffled Vilkas, that this contemptible man would do such a thing. They don’t know each other and Vilkas is fairly sure they didn’t want to know each other. “You’re going to tell me where she is.”
“First,” the man smiled at him and Vilkas’ frown got deeper, “you don’t tell me what to do. Second, I suggest you leave before things get a little, ugly, lad.” His jaw clenched at the indifferent tone the man took to address him. Does he not know who he’s speaking with? Only the most powerful warrior in the Companions.
“You think YOU can tell me what to do. I need to speak with her, so do something illustrious for once and point me to her whereabouts.” The Companion knows his smirk was pissing the guy off, he on the other hand was enjoying it thoroughly.
“Look, I don’t want to tell you this again but you need to leave this city or—”
“Or what? The word around is that Thales is an accomplished warrior, I wonder who taught her such efficient systematic ways?”
Vilkas expected to intimidate the older man, but instead, the redhead threw his head back in a laugh. Some of the people walking around them turned to look curiously, and it made Vilkas wonder whether this man was usually a quiet one.
“Wow. I mean, I’m impressed. I already knew you were a presumptuous asshole, but I didn’t think you the unabashed kind.” The redhead extended one of his hands and grabbed Vilkas’ quickly, shaking it in a ‘polite’ manner. “It was such a displeasure seeing you here, have a nice trip back home.”
Vilkas frowned and pulled his hand away from the thief’s, and as soon as their fingers stopped touching, the redhead disappeared out of thin air in broad daylight. Smug smile and everything along with him.
“Wha—” The Nord looked around but the thief was nowhere to be seen. It was needless to say that the trick had been a neat one, the man didn’t drink a potion or anything, he just disappeared at will. But right now he had no time to admire disgusting magic tricks, he needed to find the hideout and speak with the woman once and for all.
THALES ~ 9b
Date: 2013-12-07 11:21 pm (UTC)As he stepped out, he couldn’t help but wonder why Thales finds this city to fascinating. There were some beggars sitting out on the cold around small fires, hoping to warm their bodies. Vilkas also spotted some wenches parading around drug addicts hoping to get a lay and some coins for food. It was such disheartening sight. The fact that Thales felt comfortable around all of this rather than the Companions.
Vilkas walked towards the wenches and decided to ask any of them where he could find the thieves. One of them, a blonde Nord, saw him and pushed the other lady next to her aside when he got close. She smiled and he thought she could be a beautiful lady if it were not for the heavy makeup and the scant amount of clothes on her body.
“Hello, handsome. Did you lose something? I might, hm, have what you’re looking for.”
“In fact I am looking for something. Do you happen to know where I can find the thieves from this city?” He tried to keep his distance from the woman, not because he found her repulsive or anything like that, but because he had an honorable reputation to keep.
“Aw, that’s all you’re looking for? Unfortunately I don’t know, no one knows except for them.”
“There really isn’t anything you can tell me to point me in the right direction?”
“Well…” The woman looked like she had something to say, but was hesitant about it. This made Vilkas frown. If no one but them were supposed to know about the place, how come Thales had told him before? The reason he doesn’t remember was because he had been too upset over her betrayal, too consumed by anger. Did she trust him enough to share such information with him? And all he did was turn his back to her.
“I’ll pay you anything, please, I need to know.” He turned to his pleading eyes, hoping he could still pull it off with his rough looks. Maybe if he looked desperate enough, she’ll tell him what he wants to know.
“Um, okay.” Her voice dropped to a whisper and she leaned into him to talk in his ear. “You didn’t hear it from me, but they seem to live in the sewers, and there is a rumor that an entrance happens to be under the city.”
Nodding with his head, Vilkas backed away from the woman and reached into a pouch sitting on his belt. He pulled out a handful of coins and gave them to her, with a curt nod he ventured away to look for a way to get ‘under the city’.
The city itself was sitting on a lake, and it seemed to have a second level as he leaned over the railing surrounding the central area and looked around. That could be where the entrance was.
It took Vilkas three hours of walking around and looking into corners and hollow spaces until he came to a gated door under the city. It was locked, but out of the corner of his eye he saw a small scratching on the stone surrounding it, a drawing that indicated the door had something to do with the Thieves Guild. Memories coming back of a drawing Thales did for him, letting him know where he could find her.
Shaking his head, he decided to put his skills to test and tried picking the lock with a knife he had on him, but to no avail. The raven-haired man felt shameful as he crouched in front of the lock, trying to open it like a damn thief. Instead, he pulled the heavy sword sitting on his back, and looked around for any city guards, and found none in his vicinity. He pushed the sword between the wall and the lock, and with a silent count to three the Nord pulled his body up and then janked on the sword until the loud snap of metal breaking reached his ears.
THALES ~ 9c
Date: 2013-12-07 11:24 pm (UTC)Thales kept floating in his thoughts as he moved along the dark underground. Minutes went by and the air started to get heavy and insufficient. Did he go into the wrong path? Didn’t matter anymore. Vilkas needed to find a way out and into the Thieves Guild hideout before death claimed his soul in this wretched place. Running along a wet rocky wall, his eyes didn’t see the ball with spikes hanging at the end of the hall. The rusted spikes pierced the skin on his neck and shoulder and the Nord cried out in pain, pushing the thing out of the way and falling on a wooden bridge.
Vilkas pushed himself up and hissed at the pain coming from the wounds, he should’ve worn his Wolf armor instead of this iron one, it would’ve kept the thing from inflicting wounds on him. Walking along the bridge, he came to a room with light, and surprisingly enough didn’t smell like death. He could hear sounds coming from the other side of the room, and so he walked towards what seemed to be a deep hallway with a wooden door.
Pushing his way into the other side, he stared ahead and saw what seemed to be a—bar. There were people sitting and talking, he smelt charcoal burning and the scent of flowers as well. He gave about ten steps before his surroundings were spinning and the last thing he saw was water as he fell unconscious.
