M!DB/F!Companion - "Sweet As Honey" 11a/?
Date: 2014-09-05 08:59 am (UTC)Bel watched him with a mixture of amusement and guilt. "I'm sorry." She said, peering at his bruised jaw. "But we did win if that's any consolation."
He chuckled but it quickly turned into a moan of pain. She took the cloth and knelt in front of him. "Here. Let me. It's the least I can do."
He agreed and she began wiping the blood from his face. As well as a bruised jaw, he also had a nasty gash on his cheek where the bone beneath had cut the flesh. She dabbed at the drying blood and he hissed. Instead of apologising again, she couldn't help but laugh.
"How do you manage to fight off dragons when you can't even tolerate a small cut?"
He grumbled. "Dragons don't usually cut my face."
"Ah." She grinned. "You and dragons have an understanding, then? 'Don't aim for the face'?"
She felt a rush of joy when he smiled too. "Something like that."
They fell silent and Bel was suddenly aware of how close they were. A wave of desire throbbed inside her, sudden and hot. Gods, he looked even more handsome up close. That strong jaw, those huge shoulders, those gorgeous rough hands just waiting for -
She shook herself. He was injured and she must tend to him. She dabbed at the cut again and a thought struck her. Wasn't this how so many romance scenes in novels started? With the noble hero being tended to by his lady love, only for the two of them to swept up in their deep passion for one another.
She bit her lip, smiling as her gaze flicked over his face. Bel liked the idea of being consumed by her passions. After all, wasn't that what they were there for? She was a creature of indulgence and now she knew he felt the same about her, surely it wouldn't be too difficult to move their relationship on from companionship to bed fellows.
She began innocently, deciding to test the waters first. "Thank you. For what you did for me down there. Protecting my honour and all."
She saw a dark pink flush blossoming on his cheeks. "S'alright. I...I didn't like what they called you."
"Oh." Was it just her imagination, or did his gaze travel down and stop at her breasts? Then he blinked and tore his eyes away, blushing harder. "Well, thank you." She thought for a moment. "But I didn't need your help, of course. I had it all completely under control."
He snorted. "Did you?"
"Mm-hmm." She barely held back a smile.
He looked at her in the eyes finally, his pupils large and dark. "What was your plan, then?"
She floundered, brushing the cloth over his face even though she had finished. "I...would have thought of something."
"Would you?"
"Yes." She smiled and removed the cloth from his face reluctantly. "There. All done."
It broke the flirtatious mood that had settled over them but that was all part of Bel's plan. Roghir was sweet - so sweet she suspected he wouldn't make a move on her unless she drove him to it. So she stood and swilled the bandage in the bowl of water on the table. She hoped he was missing her close presence, just as she was missing his.
She turned back around and saw him looking a little disheartened. It was working.
